Choosing your horse’s hoof supplements
Damaged hooves
Horses damage their hooves – either a stone gets trapped between its horse-shoe, or it cracks it by standing on something that damages it, and suddenly, not only is the hoof cracked, but there’s damage to the underlying structure – the fissure has gone all the way through to the nerve underneath, or worse, there’s blood, or a large missing part.
The first thing you need to do is ensure that you’ve gotten your horse into a position that its foot can be treated. Take the horse-shoe off if you have to – remove the stone or other foreign object and then bind the hoof. You may need to take the horse to the vet, or have it treated by a farrier.
Hoof supplements can let your horse’s hoof rebuild and works on a cellular level, providing your horse with the nutrients it needs to repair and heal while still staying well. Hoof supplements can also be used as a preventative – some can be given continually, while others are used on an as needed basis.
